2027 Bolt EV: Key Upgrades, Features, Range, Charging & Tech Insights!

The return of the Chevrolet Bolt brings a familiar name back to Canada's electric-vehicle market with a substantially updated package. The 2027 model is not simply a reintroduction of the previous Bolt EV. Chevrolet has refreshed the design, redesigned the cabin, introduced a new battery, added a native NACS charging port and brought more advanced technology to the lineup.

For drivers in Kemptville and across Eastern Ontario, those changes make the new Bolt particularly interesting. Its compact dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre around town, while an estimated range of up to 422 kilometres can provide enough flexibility for daily commuting and longer trips. With faster DC charging and available hands-free driving assistance, it also addresses some of the practical concerns that can influence the decision to switch to an EV.

What's New for the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt?

The biggest change is that the Bolt returns with an entirely refreshed technical and design package after the previous-generation model ended production. The 2027 model uses a 65-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, a single electric motor producing 210 horsepower and 169 lb-ft of torque, and front-wheel drive.

Charging is another major improvement. The new Bolt comes standard with a NACS charge port, giving owners direct compatibility with the North American Charging Standard without relying on a separate adapter. With a compatible 150-kW-plus DC fast charger, Chevrolet estimates a 10-to-80% charge in approximately 25–26 minutes, depending on the source and conditions. That's a substantial improvement over the previous Bolt's fast-charging capability.

The 2027 model also introduces the RS trim for the first time, giving shoppers a sportier alternative to the LT. Available Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance is another important addition, particularly for drivers who regularly travel longer distances on compatible highways.

Infotainment and Technology

Technology is one of the clearest areas where the new model moves forward. The cabin features an 11.3-inch diagonal touchscreen alongside an 11-inch Driver Information Centre. The large displays give the driver easier access to navigation, vehicle information, charging details and entertainment functions.

Google built-in compatibility is also available, providing access to Google-based navigation and voice-assistance functions. Wireless smartphone integration helps keep compatible devices connected, while available wireless phone charging reduces the need for cables.

The new Bolt also supports a range of connected features through Chevrolet's digital ecosystem. Depending on equipment and subscription requirements, connected services can provide remote vehicle functions and other useful information through a compatible smartphone.

One of the most interesting technology additions is available Super Cruise. When conditions are appropriate and the road is compatible, the system can provide hands-free driving assistance while using cameras, sensors, GPS and mapping information to help keep the vehicle positioned in its lane. The driver must remain attentive and ready to take control.

For someone travelling regularly between Kemptville and Ottawa or taking longer Ontario highway trips, this technology can make compatible stretches of highway less demanding.

Refreshed Exterior Design

Refreshed Exterior Design

The 2027 Bolt receives a completely refreshed exterior appearance. Chevrolet has retained the compact proportions that made the previous model easy to park and manoeuvre, but the new design gives it a more contemporary presence.

The LT uses a clean, modern appearance, while the new RS introduces a more expressive look with unique grille treatment, RS badging, gloss-black roof rails and 17-inch black wheels. The RS also offers a distinctive interior colour and red stitching to reinforce its sportier character.

Seven exterior paint choices and multiple 17-inch wheel finishes provide additional opportunities for personalization. The combination of compact dimensions and the refreshed styling makes the vehicle well suited to both urban streets and smaller-town driving around Kemptville.

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

The interior has also been redesigned, with Chevrolet focusing on a cleaner layout, larger displays and more useful storage.

The Bolt provides seating for five and offers a practical hatchback-style cargo area. Chevrolet lists 458 litres of cargo volume behind the rear seats, increasing to approximately 1,594 litres with the rear seats folded. An additional 113 litres of underfloor storage provides a convenient place for smaller items or charging equipment.

Standard comfort equipment includes heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, features that are particularly valuable during Eastern Ontario winters. An available power driver's seat, ventilated front seats and wireless phone charging can further enhance daily comfort.

The compact footprint is another advantage. With an overall length of approximately 4.3 metres, the Bolt is easier to manoeuvre and park than many larger electric SUVs. That can be useful for errands in Kemptville, parking in Ottawa or navigating tighter spaces.

Electric Performance, Range and Charging

The new Bolt uses a single electric motor producing 210 horsepower and 169 lb-ft of torque. Unlike a conventional gasoline vehicle, the electric motor delivers its available torque without waiting for a transmission to shift through gears. The result is immediate response when accelerating from a stop or joining faster-moving traffic.

The 65-kWh LFP battery provides an estimated range of up to 422 kilometres on a full charge, although actual range will vary according to temperature, terrain, driving habits, passenger load and other conditions.

That last point is particularly important for Ontario shoppers. Cold temperatures can reduce EV range, so a driver in Kemptville should expect winter range to differ from the official estimate. Planning charging stops and maintaining appropriate tire pressure become more important when temperatures fall.

For home charging, the Bolt supports Level 2 AC charging at up to 11.5 kW. Public DC fast charging can provide a much quicker top-up, with Chevrolet estimating approximately 25 minutes for a 10-to-80% charge when using an appropriate 150-kW-plus charger.

The vehicle is also covered by an 8-year/160,000-km propulsion battery limited warranty, whichever comes first.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Chevrolet gives the 2027 Bolt a broad collection of standard and available safety technologies. The package includes technologies such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking and Side Bicyclist Alert.

The vehicle also offers Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist and Reverse Automatic Braking. Available camera technology can provide additional visibility around the vehicle, while the Safety Alert Seat can use directional seat vibrations to help communicate where a potential hazard is detected.

The available Super Cruise system adds another layer of highway assistance. It can help with steering, acceleration and braking on compatible roads, but it is not an autonomous driving system. Drivers remain responsible for monitoring traffic, road conditions and the vehicle's operation.

Chevrolet Bolt Awards and Recognition

The previous-generation Bolt earned important Canadian recognition before its return. Chevrolet Canada's official awards page lists the Bolt EV among its 2022 Best Buys – Electric Vehicle selections from The Car Guide and as a 2023 Best Buy – Small-Size Electric Vehicle.

The Bolt EV also won AutoTrader Canada's 2023 Best Subcompact Car award. The award was notable because the Bolt was the first EV to win that category, with the AutoTrader jury highlighting its range, practicality, standard features and easy-to-use nature.

The previous Bolt also developed a strong reputation for practicality. Its upright hatchback design provided useful passenger and cargo space while its electric powertrain made it an appealing alternative to gasoline-powered small cars.

Reserve a 2027 Chevrolet Bolt in Kemptville

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt represents a significant step forward from the model that previously left the market. Its refreshed exterior and redesigned interior are only part of the story. The more important changes are underneath and around the driver: a 65-kWh LFP battery, up to 422 km of estimated range, native NACS charging, faster DC charging, larger digital displays and available Super Cruise.

For drivers in Kemptville, North Grenville and Eastern Ontario, it offers a compact footprint for everyday errands while providing enough estimated range for longer trips. The availability of home Level 2 charging can make overnight charging convenient, while the faster DC capability provides another option when travelling farther from home.
